Steering Committee

In notification No. GRS. 85(E), this Ministry has initiated a scheme for labeling for those consumer products which have less adverse impact on the Environment, with an objective of educating the consumers and encouraging the use and manufacture of such products.

It has been decided to constitute a steering Committee to inter-alia decide the products to be taken up for labeling as 'Environment Friendly' and to formulate the strategies for the promotion and future development of the scheme.

1. The composition of the committee shall be as follows:

2. The terms of reference of the Steering Committee are:

  1. Selection of the logo for the "ECOMARK"
  2. Activities related to creation of mass awareness for the promotion and acceptance of the scheme
  3. Determining the product category to be taken up uinder the scheme.
  4. Co-ordinating ways of ensuring that industry is actively involved in the scheme.
  5. Securing the involvement of other Ministries, Government Departments, Industry Associations and other Non-Government Organisations and Consumer Organisations.
  6. Formulation of strategies for future development of the scheme.
  7. Identifying institutions in India or outside which are engaged in the standarization of any article or process or improvement of quality of any article or process and recommending assistance to build consumer awareness.
  8. Promoting programmes of Comparative Testing of products by consumer Organisations and dissemination of their results to the general public.
  9. Supporting any research for the ECOMARK products in the interest of consumers and manufacturers.

3. In case of special requirement of expertise in a specific in area. The committee may invite experts orther than the members for specific meetings of the committee as special invitees.

4. The tenure of the committee shall be for aperiod of three years form the date of issue of this order, or until reconstituted.
