WHAT IS ECOLABELLING

The emergence of environmental awareness amongst consumers has lead to a growing demand for goods and services that cause less damage to the environment. In response to this clamour for green products many manufacturers have attempted to illuminate the issue by repackaging their goods and slapping words such as ‘Eco’, ‘Green’ and ‘Bio’ prominently on his products. The question faced by consumer is what is a ‘green’ product and do these labels mean any thing ?

Eco labelling (or environmental labelling) is a guide for consumer to choose products and services that cause less damage to the environment. The argument runs that as the use of environmental labelling increases, the pressure on companies to produce in a more environmental sound manner increases accordingly. The reduction in environmental impact will then act as a contribution to sustainable consumption.
