an Open Seminar on ‘Consumer Rights, You and CERC’ on
Sunday 24 August 2003 at the Ahmedabad Management Association Hall,
ATIRA Campus, Ahmedabad, on its Silver Jubilee this week.
The highlights of the Open Seminar include the participation of some
of the many consumers who lodged their grievances with CERC during
the past 25 years and clinched redressal from the opposite parties
despite many hurdles. They will narrate their experiences at Session
I on ‘Consumers Who Knocked at CERC’s Doors’. They
include Ms Joitiben Patel, of Bhadol Village, who was deprived by
the LIC of her insurance claims because her husband had lived two
days too long; Mr. Jasbir Singh Jassal, Ahmedabad, whose only son
drowned in a school picnic; Ms Manjulaben Parmar, who was denied her
dues on grounds that her husband used to take bananas and pears; and
some others.
Mr. Wajahat Habibullah, I.A.S., Secretary, Department of Consumer
Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Government
of India, and Mr. Kaushikbhai Patel, Minister for Revenue, Food and
Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of Gujarat, are scheduled
to attend the last session on ‘You and the Government’.

groups in Gujarat and the rest of the country, expressed from time
to time.
