Consumer Education and Research Centre (CERC), Ahmedabad, has organised
a public meeting in the city on Saturday 11 March 2006 to felicitate
two of its Trustees who have won national honours for their significant
service to society. They are : Mrs. Alice Garg, Founder Secretary,
Bal Rashmi Society, Jaipur, and Mrs. Sucheta Dalal, the noted Financial
Journalist, based at Mumbai, both Trustees of CERC.
The Government of Rajasthan and other eminent institutions have honoured
Mrs. Alice Garg with a series of awards for her service to the welfare
of children and women. These include the Priyadarshini Award (1991),
Neerja Bhanot PANAM Award (2000), Jamnalal Bajaj Award (2003) and
others.
Mrs. Sucheta Dalal, eminent financial journalist, had uncovered the
Harshad Mehta scam 14 years ago that won her the Chameli Debi Award
for Excellence in Journalism. She has worked with The Business
Standard, The Economic Times and The Times
of India. She has now been working as a columnist for The
Indian Express Group and The Hindustan Times and
as Consulting Editor with The Financial Express and MoneyLIFE.
Mrs. Dalal has co-authored a book on the securities scam. This best
seller was revised, updated and enlarged in 2001 and republished as
The Scam : From Harshad Mehta To Ketan Parekh.
The Government of India has honoured her with Padma Shri this year.
Mr. Justice D. H. Waghela, Judge, High Court of Gujarat, will be
the Chief Guest and Dr. S. K. Nanda (IAS), Principal Secretary, Department
of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Government of Gujarat,
will chair the function.
Prof. Manubhai Shah, Chairman Emeritus, CERC, will welcome the guests
and Mr. Tarun Sheth, Trustee, CERC, will felicitate the two Trustees.
Mr. Justice R. A. Mehta, former Chief Justice (Acting), High Court
of Gujarat, and Trustee, CERC, will propose a vote of thanks.
