‘Dematerialisation : Investor Concerns’ : CERS-BSE
Seminar in City on 28-29 February

Consumer Education and Research Society (CERS), Ahmedabad, and the Stock Exchange, Mumbai, have jointly organised a two-day Seminar on ‘Dematerialisation : Investor Concerns’ in Ahmedabad on Saturday 28 February and Sunday 29 February 2004.

The Inaugural and Valedictory functions will be held at Ellisbridge Gymkhana, Law Garden. The Technical Sessions will be held on the campus of Consumer Education and Research Centre (CERC), Ahmedabad.

Altogether five Technical Sessions spread over the two days will cover a wide range of investor concerns over dematerialisation. The first two Technical Sessions on the opening day will address ‘Demat Charges’ and ‘Investor Complaints and the agencies’ response’, respectively. On the second day the three other sessions will take up ‘Challenges to the Regulator towards small investors : Enlargement of scope of demat’, ‘Insurance cover’ and ‘Overseas experience and draft recommendations’.

Mr. G.N. Bajpai, Chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Mumbai, will deliver the Keynote Address at the Inauguration. Ms Sheela Bhide, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Company Affairs, Government of India, will present the ‘DCA Perspective’. The Inaugural function will take place on 28 February from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

The speakers at the Valedictory function will include, among others, Hon’ble Justice Mr. M. B. Shah, Chairman, National Commission, New Delhi, and Hon’ble Justice Mr. M.S. Parikh, President, Gujarat State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Ahmedabad. The Valedictory function will take place on 29 February from 5 to 7 p.m.

The speakers at the Technical Sessions will include representatives from stock exchanges, investment consultancy organisations, legal firms, academia, media, grievance redressal fora and consumer organisations. Prof. Manubhai Shah, Chairman Emeritus, CERC, will speak on ‘Insurance Scheme for Protecting Investors’ Interest” on the second day of the Seminar.
