National Consumers’ Day Celebrated in
Sanand
The Ahmedabad District Collectorate and Consumer Education and Research
Centre (CERC), Ahmedabad, jointly organised a public meeting to commemorate
National Consumers Day at the J D G Sanskar Kanya Vidyalay at Sanand
on Friday 24 December 2004.
Prof. Manubhai Shah, Chairman Emeritus, CERC, explained that the
President of India had signd the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 on
24 December 1986 and the nation commemorates the historic occasion
by observing the day as National Consumers Day. He appealed to the
students to resolve that as consumers they would not pocket any injustice
and would assert their consumer rights and pursue remedies.
Mrs. Urmilaben Patel, Additional District Collector, encouraged the
children as well as other participants in the meeting to ask questions
on consumer issues to Prof. Shah and his team of consumer activists
present there. The ‘open forum’ evoked keen interest when
a student of Class VIII asked about the non-availability of ‘Vyayam’
textbooks in the market.
Earlier, Mr. Ketan Naik, District Supply Officer, welcomed the guests.
About 200 children and 100 others attended the meeting.
