CERC Representative to Attend ISO Meeting

Ms. Lata Amin, Honorary Adviser - Complaints, Consumer Education and Research Centre (CERC), Ahmedabad, will attend a three-day Workshop and a five-day Meeting on ‘Social Responsibility’ in Salvador, Brazil, during 4-11 March. Ms. Amin is leaving for Brazil on 3 March 2005.

ISO Workshop and Meeting

The International Standards Organisation (ISO) will hold a preparatory Workshop on capacity development for participants from developing countries in Salvador during 4-6 March in co-operation with the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) and funded by the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA).

The objective of the Workshop is to prepare ISO Working Bodies from developing countries in acting efficiently within the Working Group and developing strategies for actions directed to its stakeholders. Mr. Folke Hermanson Snickars, Business Manager, International Training, SIS, will lead the Workshop.

During 7-11 March the newly set up ISO Working Group on Social Responsibility will hold its first meeting, also in Salvador, to be hosted by the Associacao Brasileira de Normas Technicas (ABNT). The national standards institutes that make up the ISO’s membership will nominate experts and observers in the Working Group.

The ISO members will be encouraged to ensure a balanced representation of all stakeholder categories, and the ISO will look at ways of ensuring a fair representation of developing countries.
