Training programme for rural women ends
The Rural Development Department of Gujarat State, Village Women
and Children’s Development Programme of Sabarkantha district,
Gramodyog Federation of Himmatnagar and Consumer Education and Research
Society (CERS), Ahmedabad are jointly organising a three day training
programme for self-employed village women in ‘Suraksha Sankool’
in CERS. The training programme started on 19 February 2004 ended
at 6 p.m. on 21 February 2004.
Eighteen women were participating in the training. The women from
Sabarkantha district have been engaged in the manufacture of Sabar
brand masala. The training programme — the first of its kind
for these village women is focussing on quality — teaching the
women how to maintain quality in their product and retaining customers
who can completely rely on the quality of the product. Techniques
of packaging, weighing and measuring, mixing the ingredients have
been thoroughly taught. The requirements for obtaining Agmark were
explained to them in the programme.
Besides shaping their skills, the programme provided training to
these 18 women in such a way so that they would be able to train about
400 women in their federation spread in villages in Sabarkantha district.
A demonstration explaining how to detect adulteration in masala was
held by the laboratory staff. These 18 women were selected from villages
belonging to Himmatnagar, Modasa, Khedbrahma, Meghraj, Prantij, Idar,
Dhansura, Bhiloda, Thalod, Bayad and Malpur and Vijaynagar talukas
of Sabarkantha district.
The food research laboratory in CERS has been giving intensive training
to these participants. The final products of ‘sabar masala’
sent from Sabarkantha is also being tested in the testing laboratory
in CERS.
Officials of the village development board and officers of Sabarkantha
District Coop Bank were present in the training to educate the women
how they could get loan from banks for their manufacturing activities.
